I have a fascination for things old and Dusty. I compare modern-day objects to older ones and admire how far we have come. I miss the box-shaped television, I miss the curves of a car, I missed the architecture, the tape recorders, pencils, record players, to name a few.
My first job in Canada got me to a place where there was in abundance, a lot of things that were preserved from decades. This place had suitcases, film-cameras, televisions, monitors, cassettes, records, magazines.
My joy knew no boundaries. From the very first day, I fantasized including these objects as props in my photoshoots. I arranged a model for a portrait session. I told her my idea and she instantly agreed. This series shows my love for yesteryear’s objects and a journey I travel.
The costumes have not been inspired by old times to show that we are still grounded in reality but a part of us longs for the presence of these beautiful memories. no matter how far we have come in terms of listening to music on Spotify, SoundCloud etc, there’s always a special charm in the voice that comes from the record player.
The kids of the 80s remember how a cassette player sometimes got strangled with the tape. The best way to put it back into shape was by using the groovy edges of a pencil. For sure life was slow but wasn't boring.
